Love Is In Da Blog 3 ~ A Kitsch Love Song & Prompt Post for February 4th

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for taking part and sharing some great love music!

So, yesterday I asked you to share a Kitsch love song. I love kitsch (sometimes) and I love it that the English language uses the German expression for it. Maybe we like Kitsch a lot???

A song that the best husband (Jeremy Clarkson voice) in the world finds extremely kitsch but I love extremely is “Top of the World” by The Carpenters. It was in the charts in the early 70’s covered by Lynn Anderson but also sung by the Carpenters themselves. My mother used to listen to a radio station that has a similar concept like BBC Radio2 and we listened a lot to this sort of music because she had the radio on a lot. Those were the days…. 😉

When I met the best husband … I had a phase when I listened to it again and it just expressed all I feel for him. It is a shame that he doesn’t like it because it means a lot to me.  Somehow Karen Carpenters story has touched me a lot. I did see a documentary about her life and her struggle with anorexia. Have been wondering if she would have had a chance to heal if she would have the illness today.

Karen Carpenter wasn’t particularly lucky with the men in her life and as far as I can remember just was in love again when she left this life. How tragic is that? A couple of weeks ago I saw Richard Carpenter here on TV. I think he might have played in a panto around Christmas time. He was asked about his sister and it was pretty clear that he still struggles that there was no chance to save her. I felt for him.

I am not sure how close both of them were but I suspect they had to be to a certain extent because they worked together quite closely. Well, to lose someone close is part of love and one of the hardest parts I think but I don’t want to go there. Not yet :-). So here is the song that divides a devoted couple 😉

And because it is Sunday and some people share lyrics on that day here we go:

Lyrics via A-Z Lyrics

“Top Of The World”

Such a feelin’s comin’ over me
There is wonder in most every thing I see
Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes
And I won’t be surprised if it’s a dream

Everything I want the world to be
Is now comin’ true especially for me
And the reason is clear, it’s because you are here
You’re the nearest thing to Heaven that I’ve seen

I’m on the top of the world lookin’ down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I’ve found ever since you’ve been around
Your love’s put me at the top of the world

Somethin’ in the wind has learned my name
And it’s tellin’ me that things are not the same
In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze
There’s a pleasin’ sense of happiness for me

There is only one wish on my mind
When this day is through I hope that I will find
That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me
All I need will be mine if you are here

I’m on the top of the world lookin’ down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I’ve found ever since you’ve been around
Your love’s put me at the top of the world

I’m on the top of the world lookin’ down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I’ve found ever since you’ve been around
Your love’s put me at the top of the world

Hope you got yourself a nice cuppa and some ice cream and enjoyed it fully 😉 but now on and beyond…

  1. Oh, I really like this song! First time I heard it was when we got the album when we lived in Germany. Well, all their songs are wonderful. I did get to see the Carpenters in concert here many years ago. Super performance!
Have you heard this song by Shonen Knife? It’s a bit different, and cute.

    1. Oh, I am so jealous that you saw them live. I would have loved too. I agree their songs are all wonderful and show what great musicians they are. I don’t know Shonen Knife but will check it out. Thanks 🙋🐝

    1. I am rather surprised about that because it is used a lot here in the UK and I’ve always been surprised its a German word in origin. Well, looks like “Love Is In Da Blog” is rather educational this year 😁
